Belief Systems. Belief Systems are systems of false beliefs. The most common belief systems are: 1.Religious Beliefs. 2.Superstitious Beliefs. 3.Racist Beliefs. 4.Chauvinist Beliefs. 5.Feminist Beliefs. 6.Extraterrestrial Beliefs 7.False Historical Beliefs. 8.Machine-based Beliefs. In religious belief, people are led to believe in supernatural forces and beings. Usually, religious beliefs require people to believe in 'god',who is claimed to be the creator of the universe. Some religions require people to believe in several gods, rather than only one god. Typically, they claim that god created the universe, and created the human race. Superstitious beliefs involve a belief in magic,a belief in ghosts,or other supernatural phenomenon. Superstitious beliefs are less formal than religious beliefs, although they often have religious overtones. Racist beliefs are based on the idea that one race is superior to another. For example, the Nazi Germans promoted the belief that Germans were superior to other races. Chauvinist beliefs are based on the idea that men are superior to women. Feminist beliefs are based on the idea that women are superior to men. Extraterrestrial beliefs are based on the idea that people (or creatures) exist on other planets, although there is no scientific evidence that life exists beyond the Earth. These beliefs also involve the belief that aliens have visited the Earth in 'flying saucers'. False historical beliefs are based on false interpretations of history,or based on history that has been partially or totally falsified. One example of a false historical belief is the belief that the ancient civilization of Atlantis existed. There is no evidence that proves it ever existed. Another example of a false historical belief is the belief that Jews were not killed by Germans during world war two. It is called Holocaust Denial, and it's basically a denial of historical facts about world war two. The Turkish government has produced their own official history that claims that Armenian genocide never happened, which is like a Turkish version of Holocaust Denial. Machine-based beliefs are false beliefs surrounding machines, and the capabilities of machines. For example, the builders of a nuclear power plant may lead people to believe that their power plant is perfectly safe, despite the fact that it could explode and release radiation. Another example of a belief in a machine's capabilities is the lie detector. Makers of lie detectors claim that these machines can determine when a person is lying. In the U.S.A.,judges do not permit the use of lie detectors in court.
