Operation Dark Heart. 'Operation Dark Heart' was a book written by Lt. Anthony Shaffer. The 299-page book written by Lt. Shaffer described U.S. military operations in the middle east. When the book was released, the Pentagon decided that they didn't want anyone to read the book, because the book actually revealed military secrets.so they bought as many copies of the book as they could find, and deliberately destroyed them. According to Defense Department spokesperson April Cunningham, the Pentagon bought 9,500 copies of the book, and destroyed them,to make sure that the public would never read them. Lt. April Cunningham said that Defense Department officials oversaw the destruction of all 9.500 copies of the book. This story was reported on a British website called www.dailymail.co.uk,and the story was mostly ignored my the American news media.
Outsourcing. Outsourcing is a practice that was pioneered by the automobile industry in Detroit, and it has since been adopted, to some extent, by other industries. In Detroit's automobile industry, all the parts for the cars had been made in the U.S.A., up until the 1960's and 1970's. The process of outsourcing began when inexpensive Japanese parts were brought in from Japanese companies, and these parts were included in American cars that were made in Detroit. As the years went on, the percentage of Japanese parts increased, until they became a significant portion of the car's content. Automobile companies outsourced parts to save money (since the Japanese parts were cheaper than parts made in America) and also to undercut the power of labor unions. While Japanese parts were commonly brought in during the 1980's, in the 1990's there was an influx of cheap parts from China. Entire factories were 'outsourced' to Mexico and China, to take advantage of lower labor costs. For example, a car company in Detroit could send engineers to Mexico, and teach the Mexicans to build a car factory in Mexico. As soon as that factory in Mexico started making cars, they would close a car factory in Detroit. This would cause hundreds (and, in some cases, thousands) of workers in Detroit to lose their jobs. While entire factories were being 'outsourced' to China and Mexico, the issue of outsourcing became an increasingly important issue for labor unions in Detroit.
